History

The initiative to establish the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Tanjungpura University (UNTAN) was led by the university’s Rector for the 1982–1991 term, Prof. Dr. H. Hadari Nawawi. This effort was followed by the creation of the UNTAN Mathematics and Natural Sciences Management Agency (BPMIPA) in 1992, pursuant to the Tanjungpura University Rector’s Decree No. 4669/PT29.H/E/1992 dated November 26, 1992. Subsequently, the replacement of BPMIPA administrators was conducted in accordance with the Rector’s Decree No. 193a/J22/KP/1999 dated April 1, 1999.

On November 9, 2001, the Director General of Higher Education at the Ministry of National Education issued letter number 3494/D/T/2001, granting permission to conduct the learning process for four undergraduate (S1) study programs—Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology—at Tanjungpura University. Student admissions began in the 2002/2003 academic year through written and non-written examinations, with 160 students accepted. In 2006, FMIPA Untan was officially established by UNTAN Rector’s Decree No. 119/J22/OT/2006, dated January 9, 2006.
