The field of ecology encompasses the interactions between organisms and their environment, community structure, population dynamics, and ecosystem processes. Since UNTAN is located in West Kalimantan, wetland ecology, mangroves, peatlands, and ecosystem restoration are strategic areas of focus. Additionally, ecological research is highly relevant to conservation and sustainable development issues. Examples of ecological studies include investigations of plant and animal habitats in mangrove ecosystems and assessments of carbon reserves in agroforestry areas.
